Hair Loss, your options...
There are a number of approaches you can take to deal with your hair loss and the hair loss treatment you choose will depend on your individual circumstances and feelings.
Do nothing about it
Some believe that hair loss is due to some unchangeable internal process caused by a multitude of factors and therefore nothing can be done about it. Others tackle the problem front on and shave their head completely. Although it is considered fashionable in some circles, given the choice, it is certain that the majority of people would opt for long flowing locks instead of a bald scalp.
Cover it up
These days wigs and toupees look much more like the real thing and hair weaves and extensions can hide hair loss. A good quality wig or hair-piece will have a considerable cost but you can get a lot of usage from it. A professionally applied quality hair weave or extension can make it look as if you have more hair. However it can damage your own hair as the hair is not designed to be “woven “.
Surgery
A number of surgical procedures have been developed in recent years to reduce the impact of hair loss. A hair transplant involves removing hair from the back of the head and moving it to the bald area. The large follicles remain normal and continue to produce hairs in the new area. In scalp reduction surgery, the bald area is removed and the hairy scalp is pulled together. As with all cosmetic surgery procedures, the results depend on the skill of the surgeon, carry some risk and can be very expensive.
Nutritional approach
Some experts believe that a lack of essential nutrients to the hair follicles can cause increased hair loss. Hair growth slows and individual hairs become thinner and stop growing. In this state the hair follicles become inactive and hair will not grow. By feeding the follicles with the essential nutrients, by way of the bloodstream, in a capsule, hair loss can be reduced and hair regrowth can occur.
Pharmaceutical drugs and lotions
You can now get a prescription from your doctor for tablets for your hair loss but it is not for use in women or children and can have some side effects. Lotions containing a drug which can help hair loss are available but these can cause local skin reactions on the scalp and other side effects.
